Fall Mums & Asters

We grow an amazing assortment of long lasting and colorful mums each year.  Along with asters, ornamental peppers, grasses, herbs, cabbages, kale and other fall adornments, these make beautiful arrangements on your front entrance, patio or in your yard.

We start growing Mums in early July, and with our careful nurturing many will begin blooming in early September. You will find all the beautiful colors of Autumn:  yellow, gold, orange, bronze, red, purple, pink, and lavender.

What you should know when selecting a mum?  Aside from choosing the color (or colors!) you love, keep in mind that we have different varieties that begin blooming at different times.  For example, you might want yellow.  We have some cultivars like Katelin Yellow that start blooming as early at September 3rd, and others, like Dove Yellow, that won’t bloom until October.  Weather affects bloom time and bloom longevity, but we can have mums blooming into November and beyond if the weather cooperates.  Blooms last longer in cooler weather and with proper watering.

How do you know when to water?  Well, that’s super important!  Frequency of watering depends on many factors – temperature, wind, pot size, or whether or not you’ve planted them in the ground.  It’s important not to let them wilt, but you don’t want to water if the soil is already wet.  If in pots, it’s easy to just lift the pot and see if it’s light.  If it is, please water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the pot.  If the pot is heavy and soil seems moist, wait a day or two to water.  

Mums like full sun for the best bloom, and appreciate a Blossom Booster fertilizer application once a week for long lasting bloom time and healthy green foliage.  

Our mums are large, healthy and ready to go home with you around the first week of September, but we will have mums throughout the fall for you with different bloom times.
